In Canada, take Hwy 1 along the coast of New Brunswick to Rte. 176 (exit 60) then down to Blacks Harbour. Exit 60 is about 35 minutes east of Saint Stephens NB / Calais ME or about 45 minutes west of Saint John NB.
People from the USA will generally travel up I-95 to Bangor in Maine, then east on Rte. 9 to Calais. Cross the border (you will need your passport or similar acceptable id) and go east on Hwy 1 about 35 minutes to the Blacks Harbour exit 60. The drive is 10 km or 6 miles on Rte. 176 to the ferry wharf at the very end of the road.
From the North Head ferry dock you turn left on Route 776 drive 6 KM to Bancroft Point Rd. then turn left.

Need to Book the Ferry?

We recommend booking your ferry ahead of time to guarantee your spot. Coastal Transport requires that cars be in line at least 45 mins before your ferry leaves, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A RESERVATION, or you may lose your spot. Ferries run several times a day from both Black's Harbour (NB side) and North Head (GM side) in the summer and on a less frequent schedule after Labour Day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is included in the cabins?
A: The cabins include fully equipped kitchens with stove/oven, fridge and sink, bedding, towels, coffee maker, toaster, electric heat, hot showers and toilet. Basics (salt and pepper, cooking oil, sugar, coffee filters) are included in most cabins as well.
Q: Is there wifi?
A: There is very limited wifi in most of the cabins except for Captain’s Quarters and The Birdhouse where there is a router. There is also better connection at The Gathering Place which is centrally located to all the cabins.
Q: What time is check in/check out?
A: Check-in time is 4 PM. Check out time is 11 AM. If you are arriving on the later ferry please let us know.
Q. How far are you located from the ferry?
A: The retreat is located about 6kms from the ferry, or about a 10 minute drive. It’s not quite walkable but is bikeable!
Q. How far is the grocery store?
A: The grocery store (Independant) and gas station (Irving), located in Woodward’s Cove, are 0.5kms away. It is walkable.
Q: Can we have a fire?
A: There is a communal fire pit located by the marsh that can be used. Fires at the cabins are not permitted.
Q: Can I bring my pet?
A: Pets are permitted with a surcharge of $15/per night per pet. Maximum 2 pets. Pets are not permitted on beds or furniture. Please keep your pet on a leash when on the property. You are responsible for your pet and will be responsible for payment for any damages caused by your pets to the cabins.
Q: Can I stay 1 night?
We do not take reservations for a stay of one night in July, August, and September. Please contact for 1-night reservation during off-season.
Q: How do I pay for my cabin?
A: Payment Policy Reservations of THREE NIGHT OR LESS need to be paid in full within 24 hours. Reservations of FOUR NIGHTS OR MORE need a 50% deposit paid within 24 hours, with the balance due 1 week before arrival. Please pay with e-transfers. US clients please contact for payment options. All prices are in Canadian funds and do not include HST (15%). E-Transfer To make a payment by E-Transfer, please use this information: E-mail: marshcabins@gmail.com First Name: James Last Name: Bates Security Question: Which cabin did I reserve? Security Answer: the name of your cabin in lower case letters no spaces. Message: name of cabin. Please let us know if the name on the e-transfer is different than the name on the reservation.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Cancellation Policy Refunds will be made if cancellation is made before June 15th. July and August are subject to our ability to re-rent the cabin. An exception would be made in the case of sickness or a death in the family.
