THE LOOKOUT

This cabin is roughly the shape of a pentagon, with glass sliding doors looking out on the marsh. Several large windows make for a bright, open interior. At night, a string of dimmable lights around the inside of the cabin produces a cozy feeling. Skinned and varnished tree trunks hold up the roof and support the windowed walls. It has a deck for viewing all the marsh activity, the bay, and amazing sunrises. Though there's just one principal room containing a kitchen (with a fridge, sink with hot and cold running water, electric stove/oven), a pop out bedroom area, and a living area with chairs and side table, the Lookout is quite spacious. Off of the main room is a shower and a private toilet room. The Lookout also has an outdoor shower ( with both Hot and Cold water). There is one double bed and an additional 1 or 2 people can easily be accommodated on a couch that pulls out into a bed.
It's dawn- sky brilliant red when a deer and her
fawn step on to
Castalia Marsh. A great egret lands at the edge of
the long pond,
stopping for a few days on his journey south. He's
at the most northern
point his species gets; he visited two years ago
this time while we
stayed at Birdhouse. Using binoculars I spy a great
blue heron gobbling
fish he's caught. Small boats tend weirs in front of
us, busy most
mornings and afternoons. Stepping off the gravel
path into Lookout, be
prepared to be awestruck by the cathedral ceiling
and natural beauty
showing through glass on four sides of the
pentagonal building. Slip
out through the glass doors to the deck and get
closer to marsh life
and harbour. It's great knowing that while living
here, we are
symbiotically living with nature, not destroying
her.
I'm reminded of a quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The time to be
happy is now. The place to be happy is here."
There is another line. "The way to be happy is to
make others so"
Thank you Captain James for all your efforts in
fashioning this
beautiful paradise and allowing us to share the
dream.

Great view flocks of honking geese come on at dark as we sat around the camp five.
Great whale watching trip started with seeing
seals, fish traps,
salmon farming, lots of sea birds, a couple of
fin-back whales, one
minke whale, and just at the end of our sail, we got
near a group of
Right Wholes, they put on quite a show. Excellent
job by the crew
Captain James Bates, Lori. Carrie.
Enjoyed the sail on the schooner, D'sonoqua, a
choose to experience the
Bay of Fundy like our ancestors did when they
carried supplies between
Albert Co New England.
Plan to explore island, then its back to the main
land. Scenery is
great. Hope to get back, great memories.

As always, we love to come and hate to leave.
The lookout feels like a home away from home.
See you next Summer.

We saw whales on the Ferry over. We saw eagles and
seals on the
hikes we took on the western side of the island.
And always ducks. The geese wake us in the morning- no
need for an
alarm clock here.
They there's the peace. and simplicity. A good place to wind down.
