BIRCH YURT

A yurt is typically a one room circular building constructed out of lightweight materials. Nomads in various cultures designed them. Our modified Yurt has a toilet and shower (in a separate room), gas stove, hot and cold water, double bed, dinette that converts to double bed, and is constructed of varnished wood and fabric with a large window looking through the woods over the marsh and ocean.. In a way it gets the best of both worlds by enjoying the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the marsh. Because of the translucent walls, roof and circular skylight, the interior is very bright and open. Varnished wood cupboards, counters and beams add to its delightful appearance.

We’ve spent several great days here on our first visit to the island. The yurt was such a unique and cozy place to stay with incredible views of the sunrise over the marsh. As avid campers, the yurt gave us the chance to enjoy the outdoors with the comforts of home at hand. Our six year old thought it was very cool. The staff was warm+friendly and made great suggestions for exploring the island. It was great “I liked the yurt because I got to sleep next to the big window.”-Jacob age six. We were very comfortable.

Thank you!

At the end of a rocky path lies a round wonder known as Birch Yurt. Upon our arrival, we were surprised to find it so spacious and inviting. As previously mentioned the view in the kettle is not to be missed. The evening yurt is an enchanting place, comfortable and still amidst nature. At this writing it is windy on this dark night on the marsh. We can hear the trees knocking together like old friends shaking hands. We were going to go whale watching today, but it was grey and wet this A.M. Instead we nosed around North Head and bought some island mementos. The museum at the end of the Ferry Road has some interesting displays be sure to stop by! James is a gracious host who is very accommodating (pardon the pun) and very gracious to share this special place with us! We plan on coming back this summer very soon!

The view from the yurt is spectacular. We hope to return again. Walker our 7 year old ate tons of raspberries right off the bushes along the path to the yurt. This is such a lovely place!

We enjoyed our stay at the Birch Yurt, and on the Island.   Spending three days here was relaxing and calm.  The Yurt is a very neat, tidy and unique home away from home.  The sunrise over the marsh was an incredible view.

Thank you!
